You’d Never Expect These Actors To Have These Second Careers

There are some careers that go together like peanut butter and jelly. The number of actors with second careers in directing, singing, or another artistic endeavor are too numerous to count. But some actors don’t take the beaten path and instead make their second career in something you would never expect. Check them out.

1. Before he was an actor, Jimmy Stewart pursued the dream that he was really interested in: architecture. He went to Princeton and was so successful that he was given a full ride for grad school in architecture, but unfortunately this was the Great Depression so no one was building and no one needed architects. He decided to become an actor instead because theater was everywhere.

2. You may remember Michael Schoeffling from Sixteen Candles, but not much else since he ended his career quickly and moved to Pennsylvania to build handcrafted furniture.

3. Courteney Cox is still in the acting business, but that hasn’t stopped her from pursuing other things. She currently works flipping houses with her separated husband David Arquette.

4. A child star from The Wonder Years, Fred Savage is known to most for kids shows. But his other career is eons away from kid-friendly. He’s also a producer of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

5. One child star who’s remained in entertainment but deviated from what we might expect is Rick Schroder, a star on Silver Spoons and in Lonesome Dove. But behind the scenes, he’s a country music video director who’s won multiple awards at the CMT Music Awards.

6. In a stunning example of life imitating art, Nick Offerman has a second career that mimics his most famous character, Ron Swanson. He makes furniture and woodcrafts at Nick Offerman Woodshop.

7. Famous from Bullets Over Broadway and  Liar, Liar, Jennifer Tilly has moved into a different kind of career: professional poker. Not only that, she’s pretty good at it, winning the 2005 World Series of Poker Ladies No-Limit Hold’em gold bracelet, and the following 2006 World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational.

8. An actor and musician, Jamie Foxx is pretty excited about his new venture: an avocado farm. He may even start his own guacamole brand.
