The inappropriate use of a word is so much worse when you are the President. This post rounds up some of the most unintentionally hilarious gaffes made by the POTUS and their associates:
#1 “I’m proud to have been his partner. We’ve had triumphs. Made some mistakes. We’ve had some sex.. um..setbacks.”
So revealed George H. W. Bush on his passionate years working with President Reagan.
#2 “Too many OB-GYNs aren’t able to practice their love with women all across this country.”
This gaffe by George W Bush put a smile on the face of everyone – except those woman who wanted medical advice not love from their OB-GYN!
#3 “He eludes confidence.”
A tough verdict from Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton about Barack Obama’s second inaugural speech.
#4 “The United States has much to offer the third world war.”
This was the malapropism that just kept on giving – in a 1975 speech, President Reagan made this mistake not once, not twice but numerous times.
#5 “Facts are stupid things.”
Reagan again, in 1988. He was trying to quote John Adams who had called facts ‘stubborn’ but perhaps he was only admitting what most politicians truly think.
#6 “You’re working hard to put food on your family.”
An unusual assessment of the average man’s motivation from George Bush Junior:
#7 “This president is going to lead us out of this recovery.”
With this Dan Quayle did more harm than good while campaigning for Bush’s re-election in California.
#8 During Clinton’s 1992 campaign Al Gore asked voters to remember that every communist government in Eastern Europe had fallen within 100 days, saying: “Now it’s our turn here in the United States of America.”
