Creepiest Creatures Found in the Ocean

The ocean is home to an amazing variety of animals, but while some are majestic and beautiful, others are utterly terrifying. The deep sea is the place to find many in the latter category, so sit back and relax while we show you the very creepiest of sea creatures.

1. The gulper eel is about 6 feet long and lives 3,000 meters under the surface, but what’s really creepy about them is that they have huge jaws and stretchy stomach so they can eat things as big as they are.

 2. Another deep sea creeper is the pacific viperfish, which has teeth so large that it can’t even close its mouth. Their bellies also glow to attract prey.

3. Anglerfishes are notoriously creepy because they use tiny glowing lights attached to their heads to attract other fishes in the dark depths of the ocean and then proceed to chomp down on the unsuspecting creates with their overly-toothy mouths. The humpback anglerfish is no exception, although it does appear to be even uglier than the average angler.

4. Crabs are a little odd to begin with, but imagine a crab that is 12 ft and crawls around 1000 ft below the surface. You now have the giant spider crab.

5. Frilled sharks not only have a long, eel-like body and disturbing frilled gills, they also have three pointed teeth just to ensure that everyone is properly terrified. Scientists think it probably eats its prey whole, like a snake.

6. The black swallower or great swallower earned its name from its ability to eat and digest things that are larger than it is. That includes things over 10 times larger than it is.
