Celebrate Fabio’s Birthday With 13 Quotes From his 1994 Slow Jams Album

fabio after dark

I was going to celebrate the March 15th birthday of everyone’s favorite romance cover model Fabio with a post of facts–his real name is Fabio Lanzoni, he released a line of women’s casual clothing with Sam’s Club, he got hit in a head with a goose while riding a roller coaster one time, he is IRL Zoolander (“There is so much more to life than just being [really, really ridiculously] good looking.”)–but then I found out that he released an album in 1994 that is basically him soliloquizing about romance, Fabio-style, in between other people’s songs, and I knew what I had to do. Presenting: The 13 best quotes from that masterpiece of our time, After Dark.

1) “Buongiorno. I’m Fabio, and I’m very interested in what makes romance work.”

2) “Music is the most important thing to set the mood for the night. When I play a special song, it’s very important because it can express what I feel so perfectly. A song can speak for me when I cannot put my feelings into words. I listen to a solo and I think of a duet.”

3) “When it’s dark, I turn on the music, I light the candles. There is no timetable for us, for the fantasy that we will make come true.”

4) “I can be very shy when I first meet a woman.”

5) “There is a quality in a woman’s eyes that show more than her physical being. They reveal her tenderness and passion. Her inner beauty.”

6) “I love to take her any place where I can devote all my attention to her. It can be a corner of a little restaurant. It can be in front of my fireplace… curled up… together. Or it can be a walk on the beach, while the waves caress the shore.”

7) “I like to take a special lady to the cinema, where we can hold hands in the dark and whisper very quietly about what we see. [A/N: Don’t talk during the movie, Fabio!] I wonder, will she kiss me… like that? Will I always be the hero of her life? I wish there were more romantic films, because romantic films can lead to beautiful adventures after we leave the theater.”

8) “Sometimes there is no place I’d rather be than on a tropical island. We seem to have it all to ourselves. Just me and my special lady. There are no phones to intrude on us. Fish from the water, fruit from the trees, and wonderful silence. The only sounds we hear are the sounds of nature and of our hearts beating as one. And the only music is the music we make together.”

9) “One of the most important things about a woman [chuckle] is her sense of humor. It’s this sense of humor that breaks down our inhibitions. She can seduce me with her laughter. The child in us comes out and we are free to plan and explore anything in our minds and in our hearts.”

10) “I like nothing better than to surprise my lady with a plane ticket and a toothbrush and her bikini.”

11) “A long, slow dance can be the best way to bring a woman close to me. On my terrace, or maybe a sunset at the beach.”

12) “Her caress is my command.”

13) “When I have to leave my special woman, I always count the moments until I can see her again. I have memories of our perfect time together and the music we shared, and I smile. Ciao, bellissima.
