7 New Movies & TV Shows That You Should Watch on Netflix in February

house-of-cards

Every month a few movies and TV shows leave Netflix Instant, while a new crop of new movies and TV arrive. It’s almost a double-edged sword, but whatever Netflix giveth, Netflix taketh away. Here are 7 new movies and TV shows you should watch on Netflix in February.

  1. Joe. Nicolas Cage has his fair share of highs and lows, and over the past few years, there have been more lows than highs. Luckily, Joe is one of the high points. It’s a movie from David Gordon Green, so it’s worth watching on Netflix. Available on February 1.
  2. The Brothers Bloom. Director Rian Johnson’s second film The Brothers Bloom hits Netflix in February. While the movie is not as good as Brick or Looper, it’s still a very fine film from a budding talent. Available on February 1.
  3. Young Ones. Jake Paltrow’s post-apocalyptic science fiction film stars Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hault, and Elle Fanning. Available on February 12.
  4. The Overnighters. One of the most buzzed about documentaries of 2014, The Overnights takes a look at a pastor in North Dakota taking in homeless workers, despite the wishes of his congregation and community. Available on February 17.
  5. RoboCop (2014). While the new RoboCop is nowhere near the quality of the original, it’s worth watching on Netflix if you’re looking for some fun and cheap action. Available on February 21.
  6. House of Cards: Season 3. House of Card is the most popular TV show on Netflix at the moment. While season two was a bit shaky, season three seems like it will be something special and closer in quality to season one. Available on February 27.
  7. MASH: Season 1-5. One of the longest running TV shows of all-time, MASH is coming to Netflix. While I would like to see all 11 seasons on Netflix, the first five seasons is a good start if you never watched the wartime comedy. Available on February 1.

14 Things You Need to Know About the Greatest Christmas Movie Ever Made: ‘Santa Claus Conquers the Martians’

I get why people like A Christmas Story so much--it's a classic for a reason--but for Chrissakes, there's not a single alien in that movie. So how good can it really be? Enter Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, which has multiple aliens. If you somehow have not seen this cinematic masterpiece (I'd call it the greatest movie of all time, but Mortal Kombat exists), here's a primer for you.
