As we approach the release of the seventh Fast/Furious film,
In light of the third season of House of Cards getting a premier date (February 27th, 2015) I wanted to share some interesting tidbits about everyone’s favorite corrupt political show. There is a reason this show was the first Netflix Original to win an Emmy and the third season is sure to be the best so far. We know about the character’s lives and indiscretions so let’s shed some light on what goes into this criminally sublime show.
David Fincher’s Greeting To His Cast
House of Cards is probably Netflix’s most successful and well written original production. It makes everything that’s dull about politics exciting and is filled with rich characters. Personally, I attribute the success of the show to its remarkable cast and apparently they had a lot of pressure. David Fincher’s first words to his cast were: “Every single person in this room represents our first choice, so don’t f*ck this up. If you do, I will never forgive you.” At least they worked well under pressure.
A Beautiful Hotel Is But A Deception
In season one we see Robin Wright’s Claire become more than just a politician’s wife. She is tough as nails and whip smart. In one principle scene Claire has an outdoor party at Hotel Cotesworth, it’s a gorgeous building. However, it was filmed in a library in Maryland and not a hotel at all.
Kate Mara Has A Weakness For Football
Kate Mara, who plays cut-throat journalist Zoe, is a descendant of New York Giants owner John Mara and Dan Rooney, the Chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She had to miss the Steeler’s win at Super Bowl XL because of work so she amended her contract to say she could leave work whenever the Giants or Steelers were playing.
Frank Underwood Is Sort Of Based On A Real Person
Alright so Frank isn’t 100% based on this guy but he inspired a lot. For the first season Kevin Spacey shadowed House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Yikes.
The Call Girl Who Couldn’t Stop Getting Call Backs
Rachel Brosnahan, who played call girl Rachel Posner, was originally only supposed to have 5 lines but was so impressive they kept bringing her back and she ended up being a big part of the show.
Surprising International Success
The leaders of China’s Communist Party are big fans, including Wang Qishan who is one of the 7 most powerful leaders in China. This is quite surprising if you are at all familiar with the second season of House of Cards. While it does focus a lot on China it doesn’t always show them in the best of light. This is a perfect example of how great writing, directing, and acting can surpass culture turmoil.
