Over the years, digital photography has become the norm in
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice won’t hit theaters until March 25, 2016. That hasn’t stopped the world from digging up plenty of information on the film. Warning: Mild spoilers may lie within these trivial bits and pieces.
Christian Bale was the first choice to play Batman (again). He turned down $50 million to return as Bruce Wayne for a fourth time.
The Batman: The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel form one of the the bases for this film. Kingdom Come and Batman: Noel form the rest of the story as Batman and Superman clash, and Batman slowly recovers his humanity.
The script was penned by David S. Goyer and director Zack Snyder. Goyer has experience contributing to the past few Batman movies. Zack’s only writing credits thus far are the 300 movies.
Hitfix reports that Warner Bros. issued a “no joke” mandate. This mandate will reportedly apply at all DC Cinematic Universe movies currently in development. So don’t expect any snappy Marvel one liners.
Ben Affleck was originally offered the director’s position in Man of Steel. He turned down the gig because he didn’t feel comfortable working with so many visual effects.
Ben Affleck grew very serious about gaining the Batman physique. He reportedly worked out two hours per day as soon as he captured the role.
This incarnation of Batman is an older and somewhat wiser version as he comes out of retirement. Zack Snyder said Affleck fit the bill as the “crusty old Batman.”
Gal Gadot joins the cast as Wonder Woman in the first live-action appearance of this character on the big screen. Wonder Woman was previously confined to television and animated direct-to-video movies.
Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, of course. Together, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman form the Trinity. All three characters have never appeared in a movie together.
Jena Malone reportedly plays a female version of Robin. She was spotted dressed as the Carrie Kelly/Robin character on the Detroit set.
Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, will be based upon the All-Star Superman comic. Luthor appears scornful of Superman in this story.
Many actors and actresses were shortlisted for the Wonder Woman and Batman roles. Wonder Woman candidates included Jaimie Alexander, Olga Kurylenko and Elodie Yung. Batman contenders included Ryan Gosling, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Armie Hammer, Josh Brolin, Luke Eans, and Jone Manganiello.
Scoot McNairy will likely play Jimmy Olsen in this sequel. McNairy’s character wears green stockings (CGI prosthetics) after having his legs crushed by rubble during the Man of Steel climax. Olsen doesn’t blame Superman for his plight.
The Batman and Superman characters are hardened screen veterans. This movie will be Batman’s 8th and Superman’s 16th appearance onscreen.
Ben Affleck asked producers if he could have the Batman suit after filming. The answer was “Yes” but only if Affleck paid $100,000. Affleck declined and settled for a selfie instead.
Some have speculated that the Batsuit will level the playing field between its wearer and Superman. The prevailing theory is that the Batsuit may contain Kryptonite.
The new Batmobile features a gun turret, which goes against Batman’s code against killing. Perhaps these are rubber bullets.
