The following actors are some of the biggest names in the movie and television industry, but everyone had to start somewhere, right? Let’s take a look at some well known and easily recognizable actors who appeared in small roles before they gained their fame.
Eric Stonestreet: Known for his role as Cam Tucker on ABC’s hit show Modern Family, Stonestreet appeared in this Pepsi commercial as the store clerk at the very end of the ad.
Robert Duvall: One of the most well-respected actors in the history of the film industry, Duvall has appeared in critically acclaimed movies like Apocalypse Now, The Godfather (parts 1 and 2), MASH, True Grit and many others. However, early on in his career, Duvall appeared in acclaimed movie To Kill a Mockingbird. Duvall’s character didn’t have any lines and was only seen briefly on screen as Arthur “Boo” Radley.
Kevin Bacon: This man is so famous, 6 degrees of separation applies to him with actors and movies. Before he really entered the mainstream however, Bacon appeared in this small role in the comedy classic Animal House.
Jennifer Lawrence: Bursting onto the Hollywood scene just a few short years ago, few actors have enjoyed as much recent success as J-Law. Notice the really excited cougar in the background in this scene jumping up and down? Well, this was one of Lawrence’s first roles.
Aaron Paul: Known best for his role on the wildly popular TV show Breaking Bad as Jessie Pinkman, Paul can be seen here in Van Wilder as this random drunk guy at a party.
Jason Segel: Known for movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Sex Tape, I Love You Man, and many more in addition to playing main roles in TV shows How I Met Your Mother and Freaks And Geeks, Segel has enjoyed a very successful acting career. However, in hit teen comedy film Can’t Hardly Wait, Segel can be seen here in his first role, which he is credited as “Watermelon Guy.”
Alexis Bledel: Bledel is best for her lead role on hit TV show Gilmore Girls, but can be seen here sitting next to a young Jason Schwartzman in the beginning of this scene from Wes Anderson’s Rushmore.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck: These are two of the biggest actors in the movie industry over the past 25 years. In fact, they were childhood friends who entered and rose through the film industry together. In baseball film Field Of Dreams, the two Boston locals served as extras at Fenway Park during this scene. I couldn’t find them on camera, but try and find these two easily recognizable faces!
Jane Lynch: While Lynch never has been the star of a movie or TV show, she served as supporting characters in several movies and TV shows. In Straight Talk, Lynch played the small role of Gladys, the person calling the radio station. Do you recognize the voice?
Brad Pitt: Before becoming one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Pitt appeared as an extra in several films as small, background characters. He can be seen here, in his second ever film performance, as the guy standing behind Kevin Costner’s shoulder in this scene from acclaimed film No Way Out.
Ben Stiller: One of the most successful comedians of the past 25 years, Stiller has appeared in various films and TV shows. His first television appearance, which occurred on this 1987 episode of Miami Vice, was as character Fast Eddie Felcher.
