As with many British-based productions, there is overlap between some of the more popular franchises (and those that are not quite so popular). To be sure, both Harry Potter and Doctor Who have enjoyed massive popularity over the years, and while some actors are impossible to miss, others may be a little bit of a surprise.
Keep in mind this list is not extensive, but you’ll probably enjoy seeing how these two worlds have met time after time.
Mark Williams has played a lovable dad in both Harry Potter and Doctor Who. In the wizarding world, he plays Arthur Weasley, father of the Weasley clan. And in Doctor Who, he plays the father of Rory Williams.
David Bradley is easily recognizable as the Squib caretaker of Hogwarts, Argus Filch. He also makes an appearance in a Doctor Who episode titled Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, David Tennant plays Barty Crouch, Junior. He is better known, however, for his tenure as the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who.
Harry got his first wand, as all witches and wizards do, from Mr. Ollivander’s shop. The actor who played the wandmaker, John Hurt, also had an important role on Doctor Who as the War Doctor.
Adrian Rawlins portrays Harry Potter’s father, James Potter. You can also spot him as the leader of the Ood rebellion in the Doctor Who episode titled Planet of the Ood.
Moaning Myrtle might have been a ghost, but she certainly helped Harry Potter out during his stay at Hogwarts. Henderson also made an appearance in the Doctor Who episode Love & Monsters.
Bill Nighy’s role on Harry Potter was the Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour. His role in the Doctor Who episode, Vincent and the Doctor, was brief, but his interaction with the characters was a very important one.
Roger Lloyd Pack
Roger Lloyd Pack’s character in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire went along with David Tennant’s — he was Barty Crouch, Senior. On Doctor Who, he played nutty John Lumic, who created those pesky Cybermen.
Zoë Wanamaker played Madame Hooch in the Harry Potter movies, and while not always easily recognizable, she played the villain Lady Cassandra in a couple Doctor Who episodes.
The wife of Lucius Malfoy, Narcissa, was played by Helen McCrory. She also played creepy Queen Calvierri in the Doctor Who episode, The Vampires of Venice.
One of the men who played the Headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore, was Michael Gambon, who took over the reigns of the role for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He also played both Kazran and Elliot Sardick in the Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol.
