10 Actors Almost Cast in Harry Potter

10 Actors Almost Cast in Harry Potter

The characters in Harry Potter are treasured by fans, but imagine what the series would have been like if different actors played their roles. Here are a few actors that almost got the role.

1. Ian McKellen as Dumbledore

His character Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings has a striking resemblance to Dumbledore, but did you know that McKellen was actually offered the role of Hogwarts master as well?

2. Naomi Watts as Narcissa Malfoy

Even though she had the part, Watt’s agency rejected her for the role giving it to English actress Helen McRory.

3. Liam Aiken as Harry Potter

Not lie that Aiken could pull off the book series to movie adaption (Remember A Series of Unfortunate Events), but Rowling wanted a true British boy to play the chosen one, so he lost the part to Daniel.

4. Hugh Grant as Gilderoy Lockhart

Grant was the original Lockhart but due to scheduling conflicts he had to give up to the role to Kenneth Branagh.

5. David Thewlis as Quirinus Quirrell

Thewlis originally auditioned for the role of Professor Quirrell but lost out. Don’t feel bad though, he still made his way into the series as the part of Lupin.

6. Jamie Campbell-Bower as Tom Riddle

Even though he didn’t get the part he wanted, Campbell-Bower did appear in the last Harry Potter installment as Gellert Grindelwald. He’s also known for his role in another famous book series Twilight.

7. Robin Williams as Hagrid

Before J.K. Rowling requested only Brit actors, Robin was being highly considered for the part of Hagrid.

8. Tilda Swinton as Sybill Trelawney

While Tilda would have been great for the role of the kooky professor, she did make an appearance in another book to film adaption as the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia.

9. J.K. Rowling as Lily Potter

Producers really wanted to see J.K. Rowling play Lily Potter, but much to the disappointment of fans, she said no.

10. Kate Winslet as Helena Ravenclaw

Even though Kate Winslet’s agent refused the offer of Helena in Harry Potter they must have changed their minds on book series to movie adaptions because she now plays Jeanine in Divergent.

Crazy how even the smallest change makes a huge difference!
